Field notes: Very few people know that Mr. Whiteford raced speed cars in the late 1950's. Ever the elusive sort, he was seldom photographed. We are very fortunate to have a picture of his pit crew and their determined style and presence. I know that it could be more authentic with the driver helmet in hand, but as I said, few people saw him and his tight fireproof heavily sponsored overhalls. The only proof I can offer is the geniune Nascar shorts on the skiny kid in the front row. As I've been told from personal experience she was the chief moving force in this able bodied crew.
